    grand cherokee for tow vehicle

Having towed with my WJ, I would recommend against it as a general statement. The wheelbase is too short, the steering gets too light with any moderate weight on the rear, the transmission doesn't care for the added weight and the engine likes to get hot if not careful. That being said the WJ...

WJ Owners: What do you dream of owning

The quadra-drive system works well. It does need to be maintained often or constant turning in parking lots get tiresome with the clutchs grabbing. Off road it acts like a limited slip and has helped in numerous situations. I run close to a 31" tire with no problems but I have heard the QD...

JakeMate's Build Thread: 2000 WJ Grand Cherokee: Big Black

Looks great! One suggestion on the tire carrier. If it rattles too much, weld a nut on the inside of the rack and use a bolt instead of the lock you're using to hold the rack on on the hitch.

Would you consider moving from XJ to WJ and upgrade?

I have owned both and each has its strengths. Personally I would recommend the WJ if you're hauling a family. The slightly larger size really helps. My list of the pros: WJ -More power w/ 4.7L with better mpg -Larger size, more capacity -Quadra drive -Limited has lots of frills if you're into...

    WJ Question

I believe I can speak to your question. I previously owned a '97 XJ and currently own a '00 WJ. I am 6' 3", have two kids both in car seats. In my experience, my kiddos fit better in the WJ. The extra width of the vehicle I think helped with overall feel. The rear cargo areas are similar...

Need some opions biased or not - 99 Grand Cherokee or 96 SR5 Runner ...

It boils down to personal preference. I own both toyota and Jeep vehicles. Both have pros & cons. I would question those that think the Toyota is far supperior in reliability. The 4.0L engine is a fantastic unit that can last just as long as any toyota. I've owned the 3.4L engine....it's...

    Jacumba: Mountain Spring Stagecoach Trail

BorregoWrangler, Does the trail make it all the way down to the bottom of the grade? When you say that you got off at Table Mtn, is that the Jacumba exit? I would be interested in checking out this trail....did you happen to log this trip in a GPS unit? thanks....

    WJ lift question...

Ringin10 - sell the bb, the ride will be horrible and it is unsafe on the WJ to stack a 2" spacer on top of a 4" coil. Add the San Diego Craigslist. I live in SD and always check the OC too.

    Help! WJ front driveshaft...

Ringin10 - I have the same WJ as you and I replaced my front ds with a Tom Woods shaft through Iron Rock Offroad. It looks similar to prepmech's suggestion from Rusty's Offroad. The U-Joint style has been much better, reducing some minor vibrations I had in the front.

    4Runner vs Grand Cherokee

I have both the 4.7 in a '05 Sequoia and the 4.7 in a '00 WJ. The Jeep is way more fun to drive (power to weight ratio is much better) but the Toyota is much more refined. I love the solid axle in the WJ and the ride is better than the Toyota IFS, IMO. Go for what you want, I think you can't...

    Sleeping in your XJ?

I had an XJ before my WJ and loved sleeping in it. I'm 6'3" and could fit with the front seats moved forward and the seat part of the back seat out. I never did anything fancy except threw some sleeping bags in the back and was more than comfortable.

    San Diego River/Cedar Creek Falls

I came across this thread and wanted to put in my .02. I've explored that valley just north of El Capitan Reservoir as well and while it's beautiful I would strongly recommend not driving down there. The access to the valley floor (through the gate that BW mentions) is across Barona Indian...
