Anyone care to help categorize Monteros?

We just broke all our embedded photos on our new site, but you know we're Montero guys figuring it out. To answer your question yes, that is the intention of the wiki. Solidify the tech on the internet fully with pictures and without the banter. That way when people ask questions they can be...

Anyone care to help categorize Monteros?

We just have a few tech threads on our forum that are open source, I'm collecting my old threads like this one and a few others that are tech rich. I then make a new thread that is more organized, people can post and i modify the original with verified bits. This keeps the important info at the...

Anyone know torque values for upper control arm bushing nuts?

Also for what it's worth i use torque stripe on all my fasteners after they are torqued to spec. This is an easy visual on when things are coming loose, it's probably noy necessary for you guys with small tires and casual wheeling but it doesn't hurt to be mindful of the moving parts.

Anyone know torque values for upper control arm bushing nuts?

I set mine to 100ftlbs +/- depending on the condition of threads, aftermarket arms typically work themselves loose for some reason. On those we have had luck with Stover nuts (a gob of red loctite) or just doing a small tack weld on the shaft. If the shaft has enough thread ypu could even do a...

rocktrac 241or the inside scoop. aka i believe toasty is right

I think it will be great for your application, good find on the 26 spline removal. It kind of makes me realize i should have rolled the dice on a $400 Rocktrac i found a while back (i passed on it due to the spline count). Excellent info, thanks for sharing! I'd like to add that the comparison...

    Am I crazy?

Back in the old days guys would turbo 3.0's semi regularly, i recall single turbo and megasquirt or maybe GT ECU. All those threads existed on internet 1.0 and most of the pioneers of the modifications are long gone. I hear it wakes the 3.0 right up well exceeding 3.5 DOHC power.

Gen 2 transfer case, It has 2WD, AWD, 4hi and 4 low. They are super beefy, unfortunately super heavy as well.

gen 1 gen 2 rear axe upgrade questions

Yes the Rocktrac. The 241 is a strong case i just don't think its as strong as the Mitsu Super select case, probably more on par with the Gen 1 T-cases. The weaknesses for us at least are the upgrade T-case yokes, I always figured the little u bolts would break before the actual yoke. Kevin...

gen 1 gen 2 rear axe upgrade questions

So here's the thing about Jeep parts, they are seriously underbuilt. The stock Rapezza Joints for the JK transfer case break under daily driving conditions on 30" tires. Yes they are actually that bad, most of my Jeep friends don't even wheel and they break more parts than we do. As for the...

gen 1 gen 2 rear axe upgrade questions

For our NP241OR 4:1 swaps, and actually the Mitsu Shafts and yokes are better than what we buy from Tom Woods in my opinion. The Woods parts are "good enough" and he stands behind his work (except T-case yokes 1 year) but I don't think he actually makes those parts. So far they have been able to...

'97 Montero SR Rundown, Repairs and Advice?

I guess i should make a transmission tech thread over on https://www.adventuredrivendesign.com/forums/index.php so it exists forever and can be added to the Montero Wiki.

Just watch eBay, yours is an Aisin AW3 aka 30-43LE. Make sure its for a Montero and not a Montero Sport, the slight differences will cause you a headache but it can be done. There are two other Montero transmissions you don't want and those are the V5A51 and V4A51, these are from late model...

I might! HOWEVER i may have modified them to use Tom Woods Driveshafts, meaning the holes you need have been machined halfway through. I'll have a lookabout soon, i may have some unmolested 3rd members laying around somewhere.

Maybe look into low milage or a brand new transmission? I've seen them new old stock for under a thousand, i regret not buying one instead of some of the beater rigs i've bought over the years. Nice truck by the way!

    Am I crazy?

The thing about the X-Terra is that it's a "Modern SUV body" on outdated suspension, you can very easily make ANY USDM V6 Montero ride better on and off road than an X-Terra. As far as power goes they are sluggish with the exception of a few years, keep the gear to tire ratio correct and it's...
