If your getting a diesel, nothing beats a cummins, espically combined with the Aisin trans. If your not sure on if you want a gasser or not, hold out and see what the 2020 super duty brings with the 7.3.
Wow you did well. Back in 99 I knew a guy that had a 96 f350 long bed 4x4 with a 460, he ordered a new f350 diesel and offered to sell me his 96 with 50k for 10k. At the time I was young and didn’t have the money, I wish I would have bought that truck.
I know a guy that swapped a 4bt with a turbo 400 trans into his suburban, I’m not sure on the details of the swap but he has all the factory gauges working fine and swapped in a AAM rear axle out of a 4th gen ram.
I heard that these trucks with the AEV flares and 37’s look, awkward. Yours looks great and the tires don’t look to small. Do you have any side pics? I’m thinking of getting a set of AEV flares.

Very cool! What gear did you wish you would have brought? Is there anything you didn’t need that you brought? I’m always up for advice from people that actually travel backroads and camp.
I would get any truck with a solid front axle... that limits you to 3/4 ton on up ram and fords. I personally would look for a power wagon, if you need more capacity swap in diesel springs.
One time a buddy of mine talked me into pulling a huge box trailer to Wisconsin for him, I had a 14 2500 cummins truck. I knew the trailer was heavy and could feel it but the truck pulled it fine and stopped fine. Just out of curiosity I stopped at a cat scale before pulling into town, 21k...
I’ve had no cooling issues, I have a 30 ridged E series on my AEV bumper along with a whinch and a low hanging removable front license plate, all which block the radiator far more than the stock bumper. I recently went up to northern Ontario pulling a Boston whaler, a ton of gear and 4 people. I...
