Ford just trademarked the Excursion nameplate, looks like it's coming back

Very cool *if* they come out with a newer version of the old model. But, for my purposes a pick up would still work better.

I am a pick up guy as well. Too much crap I throw in back there that I don’t want to see or smell. I’d take the F250 Tremor and enjoy a cheaper price and better resale. But if the wife were shopping, it’d be a cool option.

There may be a place in the market for a "big utility wagon" since GM has all but eliminated the "utility" aspect of the Suburban and Tahoe in the interest of making them more passenger friendly, ditto with the Expedition.

Personally I prefer wagon-type vehicles to pickups as they are more useful to me and you can get a longer interior cargo space in a shorter overall length and wheelbase, which is win/win for me.

But in terms of the market, I'm probably the exception to the rule. Pickups are cheaper to build and since MOST users don't actually use the "utility" part of a Sport-Utility Vehicle it doesn't make much sense to cater to a disappearing market segment.

I’m wondering if they could pick up some of the .gov armored business with it. Since GM goes back and forth about building the 3/4 Burb I’m sure another option in that admittedly small market could get some sales.

GM never cancelled the 3\4 ton suburban. It’s available for fleet sales only, I just got a brochure for one since I buy goverment fleet vehicles as part of my job. Who knows if they will still have one with the new redesign coming up.

Out of curiosity, what price does a base model come in at?

Hopefully it’s a Super Duty with an SUV body.

My opinion on fuel prices will rebound, but not significantly. Oil was already sliding before the China virus.

When they went to the GMT K2YC/G there was a year gap before the 2500HD for fleet sales were sold. Rumor has it they will not carry it over to the 12th Gen.

Could they just be protecting IP by trademarking the name. I know the excursion doesn't have the same draw as the GT40, but look at all the BS Ford had to go through to try [unsuccessfully] at reacquiring the rights to the name.

That being said, having a straight up new model with the 6.7 or the 7.3 could really wreak havoc on the used Excursion market.

I wouldn't get overly excited or nostalgic for a full sized rig. Probably will use the name on something totally uninspiring. Lets face it, a few years ago a street biased sporty F-150 was called a Tremor. Now it's a off road biased heavy duty truck. Talk about an identity crisis.

Who cares what they call it? As long as it performs, I don’t care if they call it the covid package. I’d still get it.

Not sure I’ve never submitted for a quote. They don’t list prices on the gov fleet vehicles until you submit a request. This is because gov fleet vehicle prices are bidded in bulk for one price per certain vehicle on a yearly basis.

If you search for them online, you can occasionally see them for sale in the $50s.

When I say occasionally, I have seen two. One in the pacific northwest (I think Seattle) and one in Texas. I wonder if there is some sort of a timer that hasn't run out regarding when you can sell one. I would expect them to start coming up in a year or so, with high miles.

I don't completely understand why, but you cannot tow with them, and they are supposedly super heavy, to allow the ability to be armored. I would expect an Excursion, if it was done like the older ones, would be more truck than the Burb. Plus, new burbs do not have the solid rear axle anymore.
