The Hilux looks great!

I like the bar that runs from your sliders to the ARB bumper. (What is it called?)

I wonder if I could get one to fit on my Tacoma?

Thanks guys, the bar is called a 'side-rail' or we call them 'brush-bars' as you brush against things that get in your way. just contact your local ARB dealer and they should be able to get specs and sizes for you - I dont see why the hilux ones couldnt fit the Taco's ?

there wouldnt be that much different, and if mods would be needed Im sure they would be minor!

Heres just a coupla pics with the 130 watt spotlights fitted to the front of the rack. Appearance wise, theres not gonna be much more to her, maybe a tonneau cover for the back in the future, wouldnt mind some sort of spare wheel carrier, or one integrated into a custom built rear tailgate. who knows?

Question, why go with the Hilux over the new 70 series land cruiser, probably the price tag ?
That and they don't offer a quad cab ute in the 70 series... I'd still shell out for the 70 though, flat out my favorite 4x4 ever mkade.

cheers

SR Regular Cab Hilux diesel, 5 spd = AU$35,000 (US$32,000)
SR5 Double Cab Hilux diesel 5 spd = AU$42,000 (US$38,300)
GXL 70-Series Regular Cab diesel, 5 spd = AU$57,000 (US$52,000)

Not to mention the cab space. In a 70 series you get either a regular cab, troopie or a wagon, no XtraCab or Double Cab option.

Really dig the Hilux, Max.

Thanks for the comments guys. Like mention above, the price tag was the major thing holding me back. Even thou I work for Toyota and can get a not bad discount on new vehicles, the price of the 70 series wagon (which is what I would have got had I been able to afford it) was still too much for me.

I would have pushed myself to my financial limits just to afford it when this way Ive been able to get the cheaper option and kit it out a little.

I wish I could have gotten the 70 thou, I really love those things too.

The hilux are solid and yours is coming together nicely, I was just wondering if there was any other reason, I'm jealous of the deisel!:)

G'day guys,

made another mod in the past week, got me mate to rebuild the front Fox Struts and added another spacer on the lower shaft below the coil seat. This 15mm spacer added 30mm more height to the front of the vehicle and preloaded the front coil abit to make it slightly stiffer.

This has finally given me back the height lost by the fitment of the ARB bar back and Im as happy as a pig in **** with it at the moment. :wings:

Heres a pic of before the mod (actually the pics when the suspension was brand new so disregard the writing on the pic, the spacer wasnt removed but added to on top)-

And heres an after pic with the newer and shinnier ring spacer fitted-

Finally giving me the result that I wanted, which you can see below for yourself-

Am now waiting for Total Chaos to get back to me on whether the Lower Control Arm Sliders will fit my hilux - I have emailed them some detailed pics of my LCA's, am yet to get a reply.

Also in the researching/pricing stage is the front brake setup, Found out that the TRD Hilux here runs the Prado front disc brake setup, with standard hilux brake booster, just the disc rotor and caliper bolts straight on and you need the Prado brake line that comes off the caliper. This setup should fit with a 16 inch wheel if you shave the back end of the caliper slightly. Ive seen it done here on some Prado's which come out fitted standard with 17's, but run 16 inch wheels and mud terrains.

Almost 50% better braking with this fitted their TRD mechanics reckon. Worth looking into, considering braking efficiency is lost with the 33 inch tyres.

Heres a pic from the other weekend offroading, thought Id throw it in -

The engine is awesome, great low down torque. But I feel with the 33's it lacks abit from take off but thats expected. there are a heap of power up units available and exhaust systems aswell but they cost abit and will take some time to save up for.

the results thou change it to a totally new car from what others have said.

Hey Y'all,

Been a while since I put some updated pics of me 'luxi, so heres a progress report.

I recently powder coated the rear sports bars which were previously a polished alloy to black, to go with the black roofrack and other black accessories. Got some crystal blue covers for me lightforce too after someone pinched one of the previous clear ones.

Ive also fitted a 3 inch custom exhaust system to the diesel, better breathing and performance now, it also includes a 3inch dump pipe from the back of the turbo and a high flow cat. I wasnt happy with the sound at the back (wanted a louder deeper sound) so I got the exhaust people to make up for me a flanged straight through 3 inch pipe to replace the mid section that had the hot dog muffler in it. so now its a straight through unit with a high flow cat......and it sounds awesome under load in low range. heres a short vid of how it sounds although the video doesnt do it justice-

Heres a couple of action shots from a wet wheeling day out a couple of weeks back-

Next on the list may be to black out the rear tail lights, black bonnet protector and possibly tint the front lights, a Steinbauer Diesel Performance module that will lift the engine torque from 343nM standard to around 440nm with the exhaust.....now thats not bad torque!

Tyre wise, (they'll need replacing at the end of the year) cant decide between new Hankook MT's in 295/75x16 (33.6x11.6x16) or Toyo MT's in 255/85x16 (33.5x10.3x16). I know theres a width difference, the Hankooks will nicely fill my guards but I think the Toyo's would be more practical. I really want a tough and aggressive tyre.

If I manage to get a cheap small set of tyres for everyday duties, I was also wondering about the Maxxis Creepy Crawlers in 255/85x16. Im surprised that nobody on these forums has come across or mentioned them yet-

http://www.maxxis.com/AutomobileLight-Truck/Extreme-Off-Road/M8090-Creepy-Crawler.aspx

255/85x16 measures 33.5x10.0 x 16, I reckon they'd be awesome aired down but like I mentioned, they'd be only used for strictly offroad duties. what do you guys think?

anyway, thats me rig, something different I guess.......:kewl:
