Land Rover Ideas for Grenadiers

In part 7 above they traversed Hagerman Pass; Hagerman is a scenic way to get from Leadville to Aspen, Been there, done that, I crossed the pass in late July one year and there was still about 5 feet of snow beside the trail on the approach to the summit.

They also did Tincup Pass, as did I:

Another time in nicer weather:

Beautiful Mirror Lake is just below the summit on the western side of Tincup Pass.

Discovery License Housing Switch Panel

Lots of people want to add gauges and switches to their vehicles but there isn't much room on the stock dash. Here's an interesting idea for a gauge/switch pod to mount on top of the dash.

DiscoSwitchPanel(1).jpg

They don't say which year Disco the part comes from, here's a Disco 1, which is not uncommon in junkyards these days. The one in the photo above looks a little more rounded than the one below so maybe it's from a later model Disco.

You can still see the green oval on the top of the pod in the first photo, I guess for Land Rover use you'd want to remove that :).

With the above as inspiration, a few years ago I made a mold and molded an add-on gauge/switch pod for Wranglers in fiberglass. I still have an example here so I placed it on the dash of the Grenadier. It's just sitting there, the base isn't trimmed for a perfect fit on the Grenadier dash but if extra gauges/switches/etc. are needed in a Grenadier this could be a solution:

More on Expanding dash switch/gauge space

I came across these in the Land Rover magazines:

They're an add-on consoles for a Land Rover Defender dash that provides extra space for gauges and switches. I don't think the Grenadier dash offers much space for anything like this but there may be a creative solution possible.

A spare cover with some functionality.

BlackpawSpareCover.jpg

A visit to the web site in the article above doesn't show the spare cover anymore - it seems this company does restoration of Land Rovers and perhaps a few years ago they decided to try selling some of these spare covers in addition to their resto work. Apparently that didn't work out for them.

Another functional one:

I designed the one above and sewed several in different colors. The PALS grid in use:

Under the flap on the back is a zipper that opens a pocket; the pocket is in the space in the dish of the wheel and is pretty roomy. A nice place for a recovery strap:

This one is also available at Overland Outfitters: https://www.overland-outfitters.com/store/p69/Tactical_Spare_Cover.html#/

When my son saw these covers he decided he wanted one for his 2dr, but he asked if the PALS grid could form the stripes of a flag. I sewed him a special one to his specs; the starfield is Velcro loop so things can be stuck to it and the PALS grid is the stripes. He decided to call it a Patriot Spare Cover. This one isn't in production, it's a one-off I did for him.

This small blurry photo is in an article in Land Rover Monthly, it's blown up here several times larger than in the magazine.

QuickPitchEnSuitePhoto.jpg

I was interested to find out what they meant by "en-suite changing" - the vehicle spec list in the article lists a "QuickPitch en-suite changing room" so I found the web site for it: https://quickpitch.com.au/product/quick-en-suite-bag-unit/. A video from the site:

Box version (stows in a box instead of a bag as in the video above):

And some photos:

And in the April issue of Land Rover Owner is a similar product called the Bundutec Bunducube.

Seems like these could be handy and could be used even with an RTT (or with a pop-top like an Alucab or Ursa Minor), they could replace an RTT-based changing room/annex.

They're both under $500 USD, which makes one wonder about a DIY solution - these seem like they'd be pretty easy to implement.

From the same company as the "en-suite changing room" in the previous: the Trax Table is a carrier for Trax recovery treads and it doubles as a table:

QuickPitch is an Australian company but the Trax Table is commercially available here in the U.S. Wouldn't be hard to build something like it to fit a Grenadier though, especially if it had an L-track above the rear side window to match the factory L-track below the window.

A bunch of toiletry bags have been covered in the magazines.

Same thing from the other magazine:

Another one:

I use an Overland Outfitters "Multifold" MOLLE bag for my toiletry kit. It's called multifold because as it opens the pockets unfold; it's gor MOLLE straps on the back but usually I just hang it from the carry handle - on a tree, on the window (shown on one of my Jeeps) or on a door handle in a hotel room. It's here: https://www.overland-outfitters.com/store/p73/Multi-fold_Kit_bag.html#/
