Mr. Leary
Glamping Excursionaire
So my oil light came on this morning on my way to work.
Put in a quart just to get me to work and I'm taking it over for an oil change at lunch.
The_Mrs. has been driving it lately, and I have not been keeping up with it since the last oil change. I suspect that there was no oil plug gasket put on during the last change, and that it has been leaking.
I hope that it was just leaking and not burning. The exhaust doesn't smell funny, and no O2 codes.
I'll have to check it out when I have a few minutes of free time!
On another note, I've been considering going with a stealth build with this truck. Descretely capable, disguised as a mall cruiser... I may even rename the build thread.
Right now I'm thinking low profile off road lights behind the grill (idea inspired by jbrandon's very tidy Power Wagon), OME extended height coils, 315/75/R16s, and eventually get my axles rebuilt with longfeilds and 4.88 gears. I may try a setup similar to the Deckplate mod for 4Runners for a snorkeling system to the inside of the cab... have the normal mode draw from an open slot under the hood, and the snorkel mode draw from behind the dash on the passenger side. I'll use the "snorkel" with the windows down, 'cuz it will be loud and will be sucking air directly from inside the cabin. I need some time to draw it out and examine whether this solution is feasable. Like I said, I would like to keep this build stealthy, and adding a traditional snorkel would just ruin that theme right off the bat.
I will hide the winch behind the license plate, which will be easily removable (thinking wing nuts, no folding thingy). There is a nice compartment in the rear quarter panel that I intend to make full use of for the air compressor.
I could use several boxes or bags for gear, medical supplies, food, ground tent, and other stuff. I could keep them packed in the garage for an easy load and go, or I could just hook up to the trailer.
Those Swiss Home in a Box things caught my eye this morning. Very cool, and I would get them for the cruiser if I could afford them (like $9k with the options I want).
Given the recent issues, I may have to hold off on the build for a while. A new engine, transmission, and rebuilt axles are more important than fun stuff.
We shall see. See my sig line!
