My extremely slow 2001 Tundra build thread

Ready to go sliding! Well, the right side is finished. I ran out of shielding gas and the local shop won't open until tomorrow. Unfortunately I doubt I will have the time to install the left side when I'm working in the ICU for the next 4 weeks. So the truck will look a little awkward. These are the HD-SKO model from Stubbs and they are very well made. Cost was $400 shipped from California (I think) to TN. Not bad.

I'm almost done building the bed bar as well. I plan on making some tube clamps to lock the hi lift jack onto there with. I'm doing something similar to what I saw on a FJ Cruiser forum. I can't remember where, but I will post the thread when I think of it to give credit to the guy. The metal is 1.75" 0.12" wall DOM round tube, same as the sliders and front bumper.

The cargo net/barrier and the bracket for the VHF/UHF antenna also arrived, but I haven't taken any pictures just yet. Those will come soon.

Here is the antenna bracket, made by Breedlove. I chose this design as I want a Can Back topper and hopefully this is thin enough to still allow the top to fit. The antenna also points to the rear vs the side to help prevent it from being hit when on a trail.

And here is the net, made be Raingler. I wanted this mainly to prevent anything in the rear from flying forward if I'm in a wreck or a sudden stop. A plus is it allowed some PALS to mount some pockets for small item storage.

Finally welded on the other slider and collecting the parts for the double battery and ham install. Some work on the console:

And the bed bar finished, just waiting on the mounts for the hi lift:

Here is the finished bedbar with shovel and hi lift using Fourtreks mounts:

I'm just about finished getting together the parts for the dual battery using a DieHard Platinum P4 battery and National Luna isolator and controller link). I'm also attaching a 4 AWG cable with Anderson powerpoles to easily jump start another vehicle, mostly because I'm already doing a lot of work in that area and for convenience link.

Once that is finished I'll run some 10 AWG wire into the cab to a RigRunner to power the console and an extra line for the upcoming Engel. The RigRunner will power the Yaesu radio, CB radio and a Ram Tough Hub (basically USB ports). I still haven't determined how I will run the coax for the ham and CB antennas into the cab. The mounts for the antenna are in the rear stake pockets, so I'm thinking of drilling a hole directly below it and above the taillights, running the cable under the bed/in the frame and somehow into the cab. Wherever I choose I'll use a grommet in the hole and some silicone to seal it.

Here is a quick test of the sliders, both right tires are off the ground (not much in case it were to fall):

I also did the mild intake mod that a couple other Tundra owners have done. I don't have pictures of it, but it entails running a 3" PVC pipe up inside the front fender to raise the intake.

I'm looking at adding a Warn M8000 winch soon. Any thoughts on this choice?

I'm thinking of adding some corners to the Addicted bumper. Nothing crazy, maybe something like this to help protect the corners:

It's a Ram Mount console, 21" long. Since I plan on adding other items such as lights, air compressor, lockers, etc that will have switches, I decided to remove the stock console and use this. Ram makes different plates that house switches so it will be a little better organized. I'm kind of OCD I guess haha. Since that picture I have done some more work, such as installing the RigRunner for power, but am still waiting on the parts for the dual battery install to connect everything.

OCD is not a bad thing. I like how organized everything is. I think it's time for me to get my HAM too.

Since it's taking forever to receive the CB faceplate, I came up with a basic cover to prevent anything from falling onto the electronics inside:

Added the waterproof speaker for the PA. Pretty hard to find a place for it to sit and point outwards. It was either here or between the battery and exhaust, and that seemed like a poor choice:

Auxiliary battery installed, working on the fuse box and solenoid soon:

Oh and I installed the CB antenna. It's a 4' FireFly on another Breedlove custom stake mount like the VHF/UHF. Maybe one day I will be able to run the coax and power supply.
