New Jeep Pick Up to be unveiled...The Gladiator

I considered waiting for a Jeep Rubicon pickup. My main concerns were price and payload, so I looked around a little and found a new Ram Tradesman Power Wagon. Sticker on the Ram Tradesman Power Wagon was $51k, so I got it for about $45k out the door. It still doesn't have the best payload rating, but I am more than happy to get 3/4 ton hardware at 1/2 prices...

For those that don't know, the Tradesman Power Wagon is basically a base model Ram 2500 with the Power Wagon equipment package. It's a good deal as long as you don't need leather seats and a 20" video display...

There’s a lot more to off-roading than flex

That is true, and in addition to the Jeep I own, we also have a 5th Gen 4Runner. Still, having all 4 wheels in contact with the ground as much as possible is never a bad thing and in some situations it can be critical.

Buddha.

Finally in expo white.
In 2018 you can't buy a vehicle without a video game dash board. Our base 2017 Forester (and I mean base, zero options, stick shift) has a video screen and that's because the government mandates vehicles have back up cameras.
Don't forget the extra screen above it that shows you which direction your wheels are pointed, lol.

For those like me who have been waiting to see the 3.0 diesel in a Jeep....I stopped in at the Reno Jeep dealer a week ago and asked if they had an update on when to expect the diesel engine. The sales manager told me they'd just had an update and earliest expected date is now 2021.......apparently the battles with the EPA are not over yet.

Maybe the dealer just wanted to try and sell you a new Jeep 'today', lol...

I'm only afraid that the good axles will only be available in a $60k Rubi version. Like the wrangler.

Agree.

Lower gears, OR TC, Dana 44 fr/rr lockers will only be available on the Rubicon trim equivalent of the JT.

Perfect PW, but if only this configuration came with a stick ... Sigh.

I’m afraid this truck will only make me sad.

I’m probably exactly the target for it- Mid 30’s, outdoors guy and construction manager.

Currently, My LJ stays in “mini pickup” mode most of the year with just a bikini top/wind jammer.

My ideal Jeep pickup would be single cab, 6’ bed w/removable top/doors. Manual tranny, w/lockers and at least Dana 44’s. That’s all.

Already a single cab is out the window. Not even a prayer for that. Then, to get decent running gear, I’ll have to pay the premium for a bunch of crap I don’t want (infotainment, upgrades interior, gimmicky dash details) and immediately be priced out of them.

No way in hell I’d get 5x the value of my LJ out of a JL pickup and that’s exactly what I’d need to make it worth the while.

My prediction is that these last a couple years and then disappear. They’ll be priced higher than other midsize trucks. FCA will discontinue them citing lack of consumer interest.
