Hmm boy some great photos. Makes me want to pack up the truck and start out onto the road! I have yet to make it to the Death Valley region but it looks quite beautiful. Thanks for the inspiration; its helping me through a raining/sleeting afternoon in Michigan.

One thought I had on your rack was is it possible to get the track nuts in sideways? I know on some of Yakima's earlier track systems you could put them in incorrectly and they would be far more likely to pull out. Although your tracks look narrower. It may have just been a weak batch of aluminum tracking too. Are you affixing your kayak to the roof of your truck as well with a roof pad or strap off the bow? Your system looks just like mine and as you said there are many who run this and have no problems. Good cause for a letter to Thule.

Maybe the rack was just loose. Now that it is all tightened down it isnt happening again. Often, the most simple explanation is the correct one.

That's usually the way it is. It's all fine now. All though the rack was reinstalled during the DV trip and it still moved.

After a few days of testing and tweeking I think I am going to just let it go. Yes the problem caused damage to my canopy, but the basket and rack are working just right now so there is no need to further pursue this with Thule. I feel after years of using there products and having no problems, that it's not a major issue to have finally faced one. Just going to let this go.

Just thought I post one of the few pics of my rig actually moving taken by FourByLand!

Well we decided to sell the kayaks now instead of trucking them across country for. They lowered my mileage significantly and it will cost a fortune to get that back to New England. This of course will make all future mods much simpler as they will no longer be a worry. In the future, when we have kayaks again, we will just build ourselves a trailer for them

What's next..... I don't know. I guess whatever makes it easier to get out more often.

Alright Phil, I'm sure you saw my post in Heeltoe's thread.

What are your alignment specs without the UCA's.

I saw your post in his thread and I thought to myself "I work at an automotive shop. Now why the heck have I not put the truck on the alignment rack?" I will do that sometime this week if I get the chance.

I was thinking for sometime about UCA's. I'm not sure if I can afford them just yet or even if I need them. I am more worried about updating my camping supplies at this moment. UCA's are not going to keep me from enjoying my wanderings.

Yeah, lord knows I don't have 600 bucks to drop on a set of UCA's.

Guess this means no top plates for me!

Either that or I need to work a lot more! :smilies27:

After having these Cooper Discovery 255/85R16s laying around the shop for a few months, I finally mounted them on.

They fit great!

Were heading out to the Bend area this Saturday so we will give them a shake down then.

Excellent tire. I'm sure you will be very satisfied with this tire. They have performed great for me so far.

Cheers,

were the AT's shot?

No, this is me just testing. I've gotten some great deals this year that has saved me thousands and this goes for the Coopers. Also, since I am currently working at an automotive shop I am taking full advantage of that. When we move back to CT this summer I know I will not work at one and I will be very limited as far as a garage or place to work on the truck.

Nice tires, but what's up with the light covers on your Hella's? :shakin:

Shh....... maybe people won't notice. I can be a klutz at time's. I just need to watch my knee, it always seems to find the nearest switch on any vehicle I drive. Those lights sure do get hot fast.
