Hey that's my buddy Phil (tanasJ) we just got back from Moab Mayhem last week. We fixed his bumper by slamming into a moab ledge ********!!! easy fix!!

I have had one of the original models (one of the first in Tucson)_ and wheel regularly on rough trails..I don't ever jump it and have never gotten much air. I have no rips or anything really just a small bulge...we looked @ the trail teams rigs while we were in Moab and they had rips..so did all of the Fj's we were with..only time will tell the full extent to this drama..I'm sure eventually there will be service bulletin or a recall of some sort. Not sure how much of that is structural though since it's in the engine bay. BTW I have aftermarket skids, lift, and an Allpro bumper (which is one of the lightest versions)..I'm really not to concerned with this. One thing I am concerned with is the rear diff gears, out of 8 rigs in Moab 3 broke their diffs:( we were hitting the trails really hard though, and the people it happened to go out often..one of the rigs is the Gibson trail team baja replica... (all thrid members were replaced free of charge) The rear gears are now made of hardened steel... and I'm ready to bring it in to ask if they will replace it before I'm stranded long from home!!!

Are you sayng there has been a re-design of the Ring and Pinion gears for the FJ's to make them more reliable? Or was this something unique they did for the trail team?

There have been some 4th Gen 4Runner rear diff failures and I would love to get a free upgrade if Toyota is going down that path. I haven't had any problems but the peace of mind would be wonderful.:)

Yup! His blinker fluid was low too... did you fill that up? (he had water in the turn signals) Cool guy too for those that don't know him.

Every FJ had issues on this obstacle... Here is another, but his bumper did not move as much, but did move.

The original heat treatment has been changed as I understand it. After Toyota realized they had an issue with the R&P's they changed the heat treatment process so that subsequent production was not as hard/brittle.

Yeah I know I forgot!!! arghhh!!! well actually the reason it's not there is because Jester from phoenix ran it before I did arghhhhh therefore non trail blazing:shakin:

And yes I heard the new gears are heat strengthened (better) this is what I've heard from multiple users...the other ones were supposedly made in mexico:(

No hi-jack here....just one quick thought/question:

You and me should plan a Sutherland Run on this forum in early October. We would co-lead. ???

If the FJC had troubles, how did the Tacos and 4RNRs do?

I was the only Taco on this run... I had issues...

In this Vid you can see it pulling my truck backwards....

I was hearing from customers that they were having frame issues and tears on their FJ's and since I have little experience with them and seeing the bumper bend up on the above pic I thought I would see if it was actually a widespread problem or a rumor.

We finally got our first fender crack a few weeks ago...tiny tiny little thing on the drivers side. We had it documented by Toyota but not fixed yet. This is happening with all sorts of FJ's, stock, with bumpers, without lifts, whatever.

I don't know if anyone knows Highbeams from Adventure 4x4 but his FJ was one of the first to be fixed and they lit the damn thing on fire while they were welding the new plates in!

He now drives a Jeep....and Toyota now removes the entire dash when doing this repair! :smilies27

Sorry to hear of everyone's issues with the FJ's. I still think they're cool, but still not right for me. I thought I heard that Toyota was buying back/doing a repair on the ones with issues?

I've been going through this since Oct 15th 2007.
My feelings toward my FJ & Toyota would be different if it weren't for Toyota's Corp. delay delay delay then deny tactics.

Hope to see you again on the trails - I'll most likely be wheeling a Jeep.

You must be thinking of my April Fools joke last year "Toyota Issues Recall on FJ Cruisers" I didn't win to many friends with that post all over FJ boards.
