In addition to BMW petrol and Diesel, fuel cells also in planning. JLR has already said BEV's are a problem for range and larger/working vehicles. Ineos is also Europe's largest hydrogen supplier.

I've been keeping my eye out for the Bollinger release prices; these guys are nailing all the wickets on e4x4 market and also a Class 3 Truck so it doesn't need airbags or the same crash limits that limited Defender.

Won't be cheap but if you want a true off-road style characteristics in a the future of e4x4 then this is it and the only one so far in that market. I literally laughed when I saw the Tesla Cyber-truck and I'm a Tesla fan but man......oh man is that thing a joke; but holy crap on pre-orders because it is a Tesla.

Ineos partners with major engineering firm on Grenadier development

Ineos Automotive has named major automotive engineering firm Magna Steyr as its engineering partner for the development of its forthcoming Grenadier 4x4.

The British firm, owned by chemical magnate Jim Ratcliffe, is developing the machine as a no-compromise off-roader in the mould of the original Land Rover Defender. The Grenadier is due to go into production in 2021, at a new facility in Bridgend, Wales.

Ineos has already involved a number of partners in the £600 million project, and already works with Magna’s powertrain division on chassis and development work. It has now agreed a deal with Austrian-based Magna Steyr to lead the development project to turn the concept into a series production machine.............

Magna Steyr is manufacturing the new Luxury "Defender"?

Magna Steyr helping INEOS bring its rugged Grenadier SUV to production
A basic, no-nonsense body-on-frame off-roader
Dec 17th 2019

INEOS Automotive, the British firm on a quest to reinvent the original Land Rover Defender, announced it strengthened ties with Magna Steyr to finish developing the off-roader. The SUV will be assembled in Wales, and the first examples are scheduled to roll off the assembly line in 2021.

Magna Steyr has been involved in the project since the beginning; it developed the Grenadier's chassis and suspension. The new partnership focuses on turning what's essentially a concept into a production model that's reliable, relatively easy to build, and hopefully profitable. The tie-up makes sense for both sides. INEOS is a chemical company with no experience in the automotive industry, but enough money to develop a car from scratch. Magna Steyr has a vast amount of experience in making cars for other manufacturers. It helped Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler develop the original G-Class, and it still builds the second-generation model. Its Graz, Austria, factory also handles production of the BMW Z4 and the Toyota Supra, among other models.

The Grenadier will pick up where the first-generation Defender left off, and it sounds like it will completely bypass the technology packed in the second-generation model (shown below) introduced during the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. "We want to take the S out of SUV," the company previously explained.............

".......The sales model will vary by market, but in the UK buyers could well find themselves heading to farm machinery suppliers, or even to the factory itself, to take a look at the car. ......"

AKA International Scout dealer network that placed the vehicle within the community that actually uses the product, not in a "Jaguar" dealer down in "Motor City".

So at best they have two years to develop and release a car to be on schedule?

Color me even less optimistic than for the "cybertruck" lol

No hate for INEOS but this does not seem even remotely realistic. Hopefully I'm wrong, not that it could ever enter the US market.

INEOS partners with Magna Steyr on Grenadier

"....With £600 million committed to the venture so far, this is far from a pet project for Ratcliffe, the billionaire expecting to see a healthy return on his investment. Hitting the target of selling as many as 25,000 cars a year by 2023 would result in "a very profitable business" and, though it's apparently too soon to attach a specific RRP to the car, "within 10-15 per cent" of the current best-selling premium pick up on the European market has been identified as a goal. With a Ford Ranger Wildtrack starting at £28,795 that'd suggest a price tag slightly north of £30,000. ........

.....Beyond that INEOS Automotive will look to grow both the model range and its wider offerings. A pick up is in the pipeline, and the company is already working on a hydrogen fuel cell feasibility study, jointly funded by the UK government. The fuel is favoured over pure EV power thanks to the avoidance of additional battery weight - although its investment should come as no surprise when you consider that INEOS is also Europe's largest hydrogen producer...

Ineos Automotive Ltd. has been around since 2017. The target release of the Grenadier is 2021 so 4 year development cycle. Typically it is 5. Given the partners it seems realistic to achieve a production level of 25,000 at 6 years. Target sales price puts them at 10-20% less than a base Luxury Defender. We shall see.

Right, and its nearly 2020 and they don't even have a concept car...

Like you said, we shall see. No reason for anyone to wish them anything but the best.

Yes, so far it has all been an exercise on a computer. Now they're asking Magna Steyr to turn their dreams into a reality. (basically someone rendered something and told others to design, develop, and build it).

So for a savings of between 10 and 20 %, you'd prefer solid axles, no safety (for occupants and pedestrians), no electronics to aid the driver, and no modern cons. And you're willing to pay through the nose for this, rather than get an old (or even new) Wrangler? why on earth would you want to do that?

Hell, you could wait six months and buy a fully loaded Defender for 80-90 % of the list price no sweat.
